Kathy (K.D.) Wentworth (1951-2012)

Kathy Wentworth died Wednesday, April 18 of cancer complicated pneumonia.  Besides being an accomplished author, Kathy was also a coordinating judge for Writers of the Future and taught the yearly workshop for contest winners.  Kathy has indirectly helped launch the careers of countless authors simply by choosing 6 – 8 stories every four months out of the thousand or so received every quarter.  She was a lovely, kind person, who will be missed.  She, above, most, had followed Heinlein’s directive to “Pay it Forward.”

Updated Ad Astra Schedule

Saturday
Turning a New Digital Leaf on Reading
Mike Rimar(m), Douglas Smith, Rebecca Simkin, Stephanie Bedwell-Grime, Giasone Italiano, Marcy Italiano
With the advent of tablet computers, smart phones
and e-readers it looks as though many readers are
finally reading at least some fiction on electronic
devices. What sort of role will exist for printed
books in ten years time? What do you love/hate
about them.
Floor 2 Salon 2
4:00 PM

Sunday
Peer Support, the importance of writing groups and critiques by
other authors

Mike Rimar(m), Ursula Pflug, Ian Keeling, Suzanne Church, Matt
Moore, Marcy Italiano
Writing can be a very insular experience, you and
your wordprocessor... during the process how do
you measure if you are on the right track- how do
you keep focus. A writing group is a great way for
you to receive honest critiques and support from
your peers.

You know you’re on a role…

You know you’re on a roll when you’re writing a story and, on a whim, add a twist that just royally screws protagonist and writer because neither knows how to get out of this.
